22 February 2008 - 0:20Has anyone here done any freelance photography?
Chentelle asked:
This is a field I would love to get into but have no idea where to start. How would I get started? What is the money like? Are there big differences between sports, lanscapes or nature photography where the money is concerned?

You just need to find your interest. I love watching kids play ball. I started shooting there several years ago. A good weekend will make $150, but not bad considering most people spend money to enjoy a hobby.

The subjects landscape nature look at george lepps site linked below.
For nature and sports which included photojournalism and sports which included photojournalism and monopod money wise sports are quite different the most.

Don’t expect any big money until well after you’re established. But everyone has to start somewhere, contact your local newspaper(s) and see if they are hiring freelancers aka stringers. Most of the time they’ll contact you if there is a fire, car accident, or something their photog can’t be at. Get yourself a scanner, that way if there is a fire, accident, whatever you can call the paper and let them know what is going on and look like a professional. Have a sample of your work on a photodvd to show them what you have, recently, done.
