How to start a career in Photography?

I’m going to take my 2nd photography class next year(senior in High School), then go to college(in Orlando, FL) and probably major in photography. I know I’m going to need lots of experience and stuff like that before I could get a decent job with photography.
I’ve heard photographing weddings is good. How does one go about advertising that?
Also, what are good cameras(and lenses) for a decent price, or pay for themselves in the long run?(and where could I find them?)
I like taking pictures of a lot of things, I don’t have one preference.
